Jan de Vries

Jan de Vries, born in Ouder-Amstel, the Netherlands, in 1943. Ph.D. from Yale University, New Haven. Professor of History and Economics at the University of California, Berkeley.

Fellow (1 September 1991 - 30 June 1992)

The chief objective of this year of research and writing was to complete a book, with the working title A New Economic History of the Dutch Republic, with my co-author Prof. A.M. van der Woude. The book is intended to be a comprehensive account of the economic life of the northern Netherlands in the period 1500-1815.
