Nicolette Mout

Nicolette Mout, born in Wassenaar, the Netherlands, in 1945. Ph.D. from Leiden University. Professor of Central European Studies at Leiden University.

Fellow (1 September 1993 - 30 June 1994)

During my stay at the NIAS I completed drafts or first sketches for a comprehensive history of Dutch intellectual life in the sixteenth century, treating it not only in the context of Dutch political and religious developments, especially the Revolt of the Netherlands, but against a wider, international background. Together with J.J. Woltjer I also completed our contribution about Dutch religious history in the sixteenth century to a handbook of European history. As a participant in the NIAS theme group "Europe and the Dutch Republic; Evolution, Elaboration and Diffusion of Toleration in the 17th and 18th Centuries", I presented two papers at NIAS: one commentary at the symposium "Toleration in the New Europe" (November, 1993) and one paper at the symposium organized by the theme group (June, 1994).
