When I arrived at NIAS I had already completed a considerable part of my project. However, four more essays remained to be written namely:
Before my arrival I had hoped to finish writing all four essays. In fact I completed the first three and managed to write about 50 % of the last essay.
- the idea of free trade during the 1900 - 1940 period
- protectionist currents during the 1900 - 1940 period
- the economics of free trade during the second half of the twentieth century.
- protectionist opinions and the idea of managed trade from 1945 to the present.
There also remained some work to be done on the political and economic policies of Italy during the 1920 - 1940 period which was completed. I also wrote a short introduction to the Smoot-Hawley Act.
