Ingrid Ciulisová, born in Prešov, Slovakia, in 1960. Ph.D. from Comenius University, Bratislava. Senior Researcher at the Institute of Art History, Bratislava.

Visiting Grant Scholar (1 September 2001 - 30 November 2001)

During my stay at NIAS I conducted research on the Netherlandish painting as part of a larger ongoing pioneer project entitled: "World art in Slovak art collections: The Netherlandish painting of the 16th century". I intended to complete the repertory of the collection of Netherlandish paintings from the Slovak collections, which includes over sixty masterpieces, in a classical form of catalogue raisonne. From this point of view, my stay at NIAS provided me with the opportunity to consult a mass of written and visual-art historical material which can only be accessed in the Netherlands. It also gave me a chance to discuss Netherlandish paintings from the Slovak art collections with Dutch experts. Particularly, I was able to benefit highly from the consultation of rare archival material on Northern and Southern Netherlandish paintings preserved at the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie in The Hague. The fine quality of the paintings I had been working on, as well as a chance to have Netherlandish paintings from Slovakia exhibited in the Netherlands, changed my initial idea and encouraged me to complete not a catalogue but a book.
