THE POLITENESS OF THE CENTRE: THE PROBLEM OF INTEGRATION OF THE 'NEW' PERIPHERY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION IN THE CULTURAL AND DISCOURSE-THEORETICAL APPROACH

I made considerable progress in my research, completed several publications and prepared drafts of two other texts as well as collected material for future work. First, I was able to finish my book entitled "Cultural Capital and the Role of the Intelligentsia in the Contemporary Poland and Russia", in particular the concluding theoretical chapter which proposes a reinterpretation of the tasks and tools of critical sociological theory in peripheral societies. The book presents the results of a two-year project conducted in Poland and in Russia and will be published in Polish this year by the Warsaw University Press. I also worked on three papers in English which present parts of my theory and elaborate the different aspects. Besides of the above mentioned texts dealing directly with the centre-periphery model, I wrote and edited a number of other texts indirectly linked to this broad issue. In particular the paper entitled "Fields as Dimensions of Context: An application of Bourdieu's sociological theory to modeling of context of social action" and, "History and regional development. A controversy over the 'right' interpretation of the role of history in the development of the Polish regions".
