Fellow (1 February 2008 - 30 June 2008)
My research was concentrated, as planned, on Books 15-17 of Flavius Josephus' Jewish Antiquities - his report on the rule of Herod the Great (37 - 4 BCE) and his son and successor Archelaus (4 BCE - 6 CE). This project should lead to the publication of a new English translation of these three books as well as to a commentary on the basis of the English translation (to be published in one of the volumes of the Brill Josephus Project).
At the NIAS I was able to complete the revision of my translation of books 15-17 and to write ca. 140 pages of the draft of my commentary on The Jewish Antiquities 15-17. I also worked on case studies concerning specific issues related to the commentary and wrote several other contributions related to my research on Josephus and other topics of my ongoing research especially on religion and violence.
