PLACES AND THEIR CULTURE: THE EVOLUTION OF DUTCH CULTURAL INDUSTRIES FROM AN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE, 1600-2000

Significant progress was made on the further elaboration of the overall analytical framework of the NWO funded project "Places and their Culture. The Evolution of Dutch Cultural Industries from an International Perspective, 1600-2000". I was able to lay the analytical groundwork and can now move to the next stage and do the empirical research on the development of three selected cultural industries in Amsterdam, New York, London, Genoa, Zurich and Milan.

I submitted two articles both of which are now forthcoming. One article is on migrant entrepreneurship (in Entrepreneurship and Regional Development) and the other on the labour market in architectural design (Regional Studies). In addition, I wrote a more general article on economic geography from a comparative institutional perspective. This was presented at The Vega Symposium "Cognition, Culture, and Context in Economic Geography", Stockholm (April 24, 2009), and the Geografiska Annaler: Series B invited me to submit the article.
