OUR GOD PROTECTS US: MARGINALISATION, THE OCCULT AND YOUTH CONFLICT IN THE NIGER DELTA OF NIGERIA

The fellowship period has had an overall positive impact on my career. During this period I began work on a book entitled, Between the Occult and Religion: Marginalization, Occult and the Youth’s Conflict in the Oil-Rich Niger Delta of Nigeria which interrogates the role of occult imageries in the youth militia conflict in this important region. In addition to this I was able to write three papers related to the theme of the book.
The multi-national composition of the fellowship group and the culture of exchange made the period more beneficial for me especially as a sociologist. I could find out about social practices in different parts of the globe without opening a book or going online. Therefore the period was productive and reflective for me. I do not know where else I would have had a three months stay with such a profound impact on my career apart from NIAS.
