GOVERNING TRANSPORT EUROPE: TECHNOLOGY, EXPERTS AND NETWORKS

Together with my colleagues Wolfram Kaiser and Dagmara Jajesniak-Quast we worked on the research for our book "Governing Europe. Technology, Experts and Network". The aim is to develop a transnational perspective on the history of European integration. The focus is on the creation and evolution of various types of institutions designed to facilitate and govern European cross-border flows from 1850. The hypothesis is that experts were key actors. They developed a new specific technocratic philosophy on how to collaborate internationally which fed into the European integration process as well as in the Eastern European equivalent (Comecon). The book will be published in 2013 with Palgrave Macmillan as part of the "Making Europe" book series.
